Crete, the beginning ……

Crete, the island where Zeus was born, the place where he seduced Europe, the origin of many legends, the place that was the “birthplace” of western civilisation. The place where Venetians and Turks felt at home for centuries, where hospitality still comes from the hart, where the Cretans are no Greeks, the beginning of all ……and also for us and for you, dear guests, the start of a wonderful, relaxing – many things can be done, nothing has to be done – holiday.

 

WELCOME

Crete is the most southern Greek island, with its “banana” shaped form it acts like a natural frontier between Europe and Africa.

Rethymnon is located on the north coast of Crete and is the third largest town of the island; Heraklion being the largest and Chania the second largest. The university of Crete is based just to the South West of the town, in Galou.

You will be staying in an old house in the old part of the town. The house dates from the 14th century “PALIA PORTA” (= the old door). The streets in this part of the town are only 1,50 m wide, it is very quiet and yet you are only a 3 minute walk away from the centre from the old town, with its many shops and terraces, and only a 10 minute walk from the beach with its harbour and the long promenade.

When we had the house renovated, we had to follow the regulations imposed by the archaeological department. This is one off the reasons why we don’t have swimming pool yet, but as the sea is only 200m away, we think we can do a while without.

Entering the yard, you step into another world. You will be charmed with the Cretan, Venetian and Turkish atmosphere - there is even a hint of the Orient.
